I Will Pay Assembly Members Allowances If Elected President – Mahama

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has indicated that he will pay assembly members allowances should Ghanaians vote him as president in the 2024 elections.

“Assembly members carry a great responsibility and so if I’m elected president, we will pay them allowances to help them carry out the duties that they have been elected for”.

According to him, the NDC government will complete the decentralization of government offices so that power will be handed over to the people at the local government level.

“ Until we get our decentralization right, Ghana is not going to go anywhere and so we are going to take it seriously”.

He disclosed that the NDC government will increase the district common fund from 5% to 7% when voted into power come 2024.

“The district common fund is going to be regular so districts can take advantage of it and increase the pace of their development”.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), made this known when he voted at Bole in the district-level elections.

Mr. Mahama however urged the Electoral Commission to ensure that they fix the issues that have arisen in the district-level elections before the 2024 general elections.

“ In my polling station here everything was okay but unfortunately I hear there are glitches in some places and it’s my hope that the Electoral Commission will put their acts together because in 2024 when voters go to the polls and these glitches happen it will create some problems so EC has to get its acts together”.
