NDC MP Allegedly Deploys Thugs To Attack Ewes

The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region, on Thursday in a Rambo style led some thugs to attack some residents in Akosombo on the claims that they are foreigners.

This follows allegations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the area, Pius Enam Hadzide has allegedly bused some non-residents from Ketu North to the area to register in the ongoing limited registration exercise.

The Asuogyaman Constituency is being dominated by Ewes against the majority, Akan, Akwamu, Krobo, and other settlers.

The thugs as gathered broke into a house to attack and assault the residents who the NDC MP claimed they are “foreigners” and would not allow them to register in the ongoing voter registration.

Interestingly, the NDC MP, Ampem Nyarko, who has also been recruiting some residents from North Tongu Constituency, precisely Juapong to register in his constituency, was heard commanding his thugs: “Break the door, beat them, kill them.”

Shockingly, these orders were carried out as the mob forcefully entered houses and assaulted the residents, including young women, according to eyewitness reports.

The violent situation took the intervention of a Police reinforcement who rushed there to save the situation.

The Police managed to arrest some of the thugs and later granted them bail.

However, it was revealed that some of the occupants were individuals who hailed from the area but stayed outside Akosombo and came back to register, especially the Senior High School students.

But the NDC MP, Ampem Nyarko targeted these individuals as “foreigners” who he felt would vote against him, because the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Pius Enam Hadzide is an ewe.

In reaction, Pius Hadzide condemned the NDC MP’s derogatory remarks towards Ewes and accused the MP of ingratitude towards the community that had previously supported him.

He also alleged that the MP has been playing on tribal lines to gain support among Ewe communities.

Concerning the development incident, the NDC Constituency Executives have filled the challenge form provided by the Electoral Commission hoping to disqualify the applicants they perceived as non-residents.
