NINE PERSONS within a spate of twelve hours perished in fatal accidents on the Sunyani-Berekum Highway.
In the first road crash, seven boys on a tricycle locally called Pragyia lost their lives at a community called Mantukwa last Thursday night about 10pm after they collided with a Toyota RAV4 vehicle.
According to an eyewitness, the pragyia had not lights on though riding on the highway
The RAV4 coming from the opposite direction bumped into it killing all the seven on the spot.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be identified.
The paper also learnt that the driver of the four wheel drive for fear of his life after the accident fled the scene.
The second road crash involved an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, who was on an unlicensed APSONIC motorbike heading from Berekum to Sunyani.
The officer was crushed to death by an OA Groundbird bus in a headlong collision on the Nsoatre road.
The OA bus service confirmed to the paper that bus number GT 5768-18, traveling from Sunyani to Nkrankwanta Friday morning crushed the motorbike with two persons onboard including an officer.
He explained that the bus was trailing behind another Toyota RAV4 with registration number BA 20-19 but upon reaching a rough section of the road, the RAV 4 driver applied the brakes at once.
“In an attempt to avoid bumping into it, the bus switched to the lane but unfortunately crushed the oncoming motorcycle dragging the rider and the bullion rider to a distance killing them instantly,” the transport service provider said.
Both bus and RAV4 finally landed in the bush while the motorcycle was mangled beyond identification.
Fifteen passengers on the bus also suffered various injuries and were rushed to the hospital. As at the time of filling this report ten out of the fifteen were treated and discharged while the rest are still on admission receiving treatment.
The bodies of the deceased including a Ghana Immigration Service officer (lady) has been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital Mortuary.
