THE EXCHANGE in the country is adversely affecting the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project, which seeks to raise a staggering US$10 million to renovate old Gee Blocks.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of activities marking his 25 years anniversary, initiated the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project to help save the dilapidated blocks.
Chairman of the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ Project Committee, Sammy Adu Boakye, expressed concern over how the exchange rate is affecting the fund raising process.
Mr. Adu Boakye said the unstable nature of the exchange rate is frustrating the fund raising exercise to the chagrin of all stakeholders of the worthy course.
Despite the exchange rate challenge, he said US$4 million out of the US$ 10 million target has been raised so far through donations from individuals and organisations.
Mr. Adu Boakye admitted that there is still a long way to go, with regards to achieving the US$10 million target, and urged corporate bodies and individuals to donate more.
He was speaking when the leaders of the various unions at KATH and management members inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works on the old Gee Blocks on Thursday.
Adu Boakye particularly charged the staff and members of KATH to also donate to the Heal Komfo Anokye Project to motivate the public to also emulate their shining example.
“As personnel of KATH, your contribution will ginger the outside world to also donate to the project to help bring the old Gee Blocks to international standards”, he said.
KATH CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, also urged the staff to “own the Heal Komfo Anokye project” by making financial contributions to the project.
He announced that the management and board members have made key contributions to the project, reiterating the need for the KATH staff to also support the project.
The KATH CEO also disclosed that new electronic, manual and hydraulic beds would be put in all the blocks under renovation to give the facility the modern look it deserves.
