The Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has conducted an operation in some areas where illegal mining (galamsey) activities are taking place to chase out galamseyers along the Black Volta in the Savannah Region.
The operation resulted in the burning of Chanfang machines, generators, tricycles and other equipment used in the galamsey activities.
The Savannah Regional Minister, who doubles as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Saeed Muhazu Jibril, has indicated that REGSEC would ensure that they get rid of all galamseyers from their hideouts in the Savannah Region.
“You can clearly see the level at which they have destroyed our natural water bodies, and so we will make sure we handle it properly to protect our environment,” he stated.
He assured that the operation by REGSEC will continue until the last galamseyer is removed from the Savannah Region.
“We just started and we will ensure that we get rid of all the galamseyers who are in the Black Volta,” he added.
