Bernard Mornah Drags EC To Court Over Disqualification

The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has taken the Electoral Commission (EC) to court over his disqualification from the upcoming presidential elections.

Bernard Mornah was one of the 11 presidential aspirants disqualified by the EC due to errors on their nomination forms.

According to the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, Bernard Mornah’s disqualification was due to incomplete details of supporters, using registered voters from one district to support nominations in other districts, and varying signatures for the same supporters.

However, Bernard Mornah claims his disqualification was illegal, breached his rights, and failed to comply with due process requirements.

Bernard Mornah is seeking a court order to compel the EC to declare him duly nominated to contest the 2024 presidential elections.

He also wants the court to restrain the EC from printing presidential ballot papers or proceeding with the December 7 elections until his nomination is confirmed.

This development comes after Mornah expressed surprise and disappointment over his disqualification, stating that he had made necessary corrections as directed by the EC.

The PNC flagbearer joins Janet Nabla, founder of the People’s National Party, who also threatened to sue the EC over her disqualification.

Background of the Disqualification

The EC disqualified 11 presidential aspirants, including Mornah and Nabla, citing non-compliance with nomination requirements.

The commission approved 13 candidates for the December 7 elections after a thorough examination of nomination forms.
