Nana Mocks Mahama Over No. 8

President Nana Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has fired back at ex-President John Dramani Mahama after the latter taunted the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it could not “break the 8.”

“Breaking the 8” phrase refers to the NPP’s quest to win a third consecutive term in office.

However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer has cleverly flipped the script, suggesting that his 8th spot on the ballot is a sign that the NPP’s streak is about to end.

But addressing chiefs and people in the Upper East Region, President Akufo-Addo responded to Mr. Mahama’s taunt, implying that his 8th position on the 2024 presidential ballot is a poetic justice and karmic reversal.

“Breaking the 8 and having number 8, that’s not a good sign at all,” the President asserted, apparently suggesting that Mr. Mahama’s ‘Stopping the 8’ mantra has come full circle.

According to the President, since the NPP’s goal is to ‘break the 8,’ Mr. Mahama securing the 8th position on the presidential ballot could actually make it easier for the NPP to achieve their goal and win the election.

President Akufo-Addo showered Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with praise, highlighting his unwavering loyalty and commitment.

“In nearly 20 years of working together, I’ve never once doubted Dr. Bawumia’s dedication,” he said, emphasising the Vice President’s impeccable character.

President Akufo-Addo urged the chiefs and people of the Upper East Region to support Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections, saying: “I have come here to ask for your support to help Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to break the 8.”
