6 Arrested Over Lynching Of Prison Officer In Kasoa

A devastating incident of mob justice has shaken the community of Kasoa Iron City, resulting in the tragic death of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a prison warder stationed at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The Ghana Prisons Service confirmed that six suspects, four females and two males, have been taken into custody in connection with the brutal lynching.

Background

On September 29, 2024, Lance Corporal Adu Boakye visited his relatives in Kasoa, unaware of the fate that awaited him.

He was allegedly mistaken for a thief and attacked by a group of unknown assailants, leading to his untimely death.

The Kasoa Divisional Police Command has launched a formal investigation into the lynching, with the prison administration working closely with the police to uncover the full circumstances behind the attack.

The suspects have been remanded as investigations continue.

Mob Justice

Meanwhile, the Prisons Service has strongly condemned the act of “instant justice,” cautioning the public to report suspicious activities to the authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.

They warned that such actions often lead to harm against innocent people.

Call for Calm

The Service has also extended condolences to the family and friends of the slain officer and urged all prison officers to remain calm as steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
