Bougouma Aloys Jnr., a 47-year-old Burkinabe national, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murders of his German girlfriend, Claudia Weiman, 53, and their 14-year-old daughter.
An Accra High Court on Monday delivered the verdict after a unanimous guilty verdict from a seven-member jury on two counts of murder.
A Grisly Crime
The events leading up to the murders are disturbing.
Aloys and Weiman had relocated from Germany to Ghana in January 2020, seeking a fresh start.
However, their relationship took a dark turn when Aloys struck Weiman in the head with a hammer during a dispute.
Fearing his daughter would report the incident to the police, he strangled her as well. In a desperate attempt to conceal the crime, Aloys buried both bodies on their 10-plot property in Kokrobite, Accra.
Neighbors’ Suspicion Leads to Discovery
Neighbors grew suspicious after noticing the sudden absence of Weiman and her daughter.
They reported a foul odor emanating from the property, initially believed to be a decaying animal.
However, police involvement led to the gruesome discovery of human remains.
Aloys later confessed, providing details of how he committed the heinous crime.
Justice Served
Assistant State Attorney Yvonne Yaachie-Adomako led the prosecution, presenting five witnesses to establish the case.
Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh delivered the sentencing, ensuring that Aloys would spend the rest of his life behind bars.
