Another Game Changer Cometh

 Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Today, the man of destiny and vision unveils a policy intervention that is likely to lessen the economic burden on the people no matter their status in society.

For sometime now, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled a number of initiatives he describes as bold solutions to the Guggisberg type of economy the country has implemented.

The naysayers, who have never dreamt anything in their political careers, have regularly tickled themselves to laugh about these polices because to them they appear utopian in the Ghanaian context.

They have never believed that digitalisation has a place in our efforts to compete globally, and led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Mahama, they have claimed Mahamudu Bawumia has found an escape route from our economic malaise to seek shelter under the digital economy.

Such characters including John Mahama have refused to see the light even if progress is held at their eye balls. Today, every Tom, Dick and Harry are no longer victims of pickpockets as nobody keeps money in his or her purse.

A few years ago, consumers of electricity slept in darkness when their credits run out, but today these consumers buy credit online from the comforts of their home at any time, day and night.

Thanks to the mobile money interoperability, long queues have vanished from our banking halls as customers on receiving alerts for payment of their salaries transfer portions onto their mobile money wallet for convenient use.

In years gone by when reopening of secondary schools was a cocoa season for headmasters, now belongs to history. We used to have a session called schools placement for headmasters to meet to select qualified candidates for their schools.

When the government realised that the placement was being abused, the computerised placement system came on board, but these unscrupulous and greedy headmasters found a way to abuse the system for personal gain.

Now, however, under the watchful eye of the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the students are placed in secondary schools seamlessly. With these successes chalked up by the Akufo-Addo and Mahamudu Bawumia government, the naysayers, mostly in the NDC think the NPP government is doing nothing about the economy.

The days when development is seen in skyscrapers now belong to history. Development is about the wellbeing of the people. And with the focus on digitalisation, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is setting the stage to remove the bottlenecks that stand in the way of the people to eke a decent living.

We therefore situate the introduction of the progressive credit score card system by the NPP government which will be launched in Accra today. Any decent person who wants to be truthful and has experienced life in Europe and America can attest to the effective impact of the initiative on the standard of living of the people.

No resident in Europe and America purchases any item be it household consumables and capital items such as cars and houses with cash.

Those with good credit score cards or credit cards can purchase any item and pay on a monthly basis, thereby reducing economic pain on consumers.

In this era when a section of our society keeps complaining about high cost of living, this key initiative called the credit scoring system should provide a major relief.

The scheme generally aims at providing the people with easier access to credit, allowing them to acquire goods and services which they can pay later. We hope this will provide the further impetus by Mahamudu Bawumia to transform Ghana into a digital economy.

The credit scoring system is the broader push by the NPP government to digitise the Ghanaian economy with tools such as the Ghana Card and the Citizens App, which also aims at enhancing financial inclusion.

We know that the 2024 elections are here but we urge the people to support the credit scoring system to improve the conduct of business in any sphere of life. Let us help to make the credit score initiative the game changer.
