The accident scene
Two people have been reported dead in an accident involving a fuel tanker and Hyundai Elantra at Konongo in Asante Akyem Central Municipality, in the Ashanti Region.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana National Fire Service, Peter Addai, who confirmed the accident to Citi News, said the incident occurred last Wednesday, November 6, 2024, when the brakes of a fuel tanker failed and collided with four vehicles before eventually running into a Hyundai Elantra, killing two occupants in the car.
According to the PRO, the two victims died at the scene of the accident near Mark Zenith Company on the Kumasi Highway, while seven others who sustained severe injuries were transported to the Konongo Government Hospital for treatment.
He said the total number of people involved in the accident was nine, as seven individuals were rescued by bystanders, while bodies of the deceased were also handed over to the police.
He further indicated that the police have launched investigation to determine the cause of the accident, while the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the morgue.
A similar accident was also recorded on Monday, October 14, this year, when a VIP bus travelling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region veered off the road and plunged into a ditch near Kwapia, close to Obuasi, killing 13 people.
