Sekondi-Takoradi Residents Expect More From NDC

John Mahama

Some residents in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis say they expect more from the President-elect, John Mahama and the next government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they are about to assume power again.

“We have high expectations. We expect John Mahama to deliver on all his promises including completing the Takoradi interchange and the Takoradi main market,” they indicated.

They said they would not accept any excuse from the next NDC government and they want Mahama to salvage the economy he claimed is in a mess.

This came to light when DAILY GUIDE interacted with some residents in the area about their expectations of the next NDC government.

They said after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had built a firm foundation for the country’s economy, they expected to see the economic recovery the NDC was talking about.

Mr. Michael Ansong, a resident of Takoradi Amanful, indicated that he believed Ghanaians voted for the NDC because they want to see real change in their lives.

He said he was hopeful that workers’ living standards would be improved and their salaries would be increased, particularly railway workers.

“We are waiting for the next NDC government to introduce the 24-hour economy they promised to turn the fortunes of country around,” he added.

Another resident, Egya Badu, a popular tailor in Takoradi, said he expects the next NDC government to take  more pragmatic measures to make the economy free of foreign controls.

While commending Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding early in last Saturday’s general election to help protect the country’s democratic credentials, he was hopeful that the NDC would work hard to reduce the perceived high cost of living.

“The NDC promised to make life worth living for the ordinary Ghanaian. The party also promised to improve the free SHS policy and add private schools to the policy and make university education for first year students free. So Ghanaians are expecting all these promises to be fulfilled,” he pointed out.

A trader, Madam Adjoa Essaba, also noted that she expects the upgrading of existing roads and provision of new ones in remote parts of the region to help reduce cost of foodstuff on which workers spend a chunk of their salaries.

A farmer, Moses Alabi, praised the Akufo-Addo-led government for the measures it took to revamp the cocoa industry in particular.

He asserted that the increase in the producer price of cocoa by the NPP government succeeded in attracting many youth to cocoa farming, and was expecting that the next NDC government would do more for farmers.
