TWO PEOPLE are feared dead and five others have sustained severe injuries following deadly clashes between suspected gold thieves and angry youth in Nyinahin-Kasotie, in the Ashanti Region.

Eyewitness reports indicated that a group of stoutly built men on Monday morning stormed Nyinahin-Kasotie, which is in the Atwima Mponua District, with the sole intention of stealing from the local people.

According to them, the invaders of the community, who were heavily armed with offensive weapons, suddenly began stealing excavator parts and gold deposits from their fear-stricken victims, who looked helpless.

The stealing expedition of the stoutly built men, who were virtually having a field’s day, reportedly, continued for sometime as none of their victims resisted their illegal and condemnable actions.

However, the youth of Nyinahin-Kasotie later mustered courage as they pounced on the thieves, leading to a free-for-all brawl in the full glare of the public.

Sadly, the youth suffered a huge loss as two of them reportedly got killed and five others also sustained life-threatening injuries during the deadly clashes. This has led to fear and panic in the town.

Meanwhile, Samuel Anyine, the Assemblyman for Kyekyewere Electoral Area, has confirmed the case and appealed to government to deploy the military to the town to ensure law and order.

According to him, the probability of the stoutly built men attacking members of his community again is very high, hence the need for military protection for the local people with immediate effect.
