A 38-year-old farmer has sustained gunshot wound for purportedly refusing to sell his farm for alleged illegal mining activities or ‘galamsey’.
The farmer, Kwadwo Kintoh, was shot on his farm at Sefwi Nambro in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
According to sources, the farmer refused to sell his land to the illegal miner due to a low compensation package.
The unfortunate incident occurred when the illegal miner, whose name was not immediately known, was using an excavator to construct a path through the victim’s farm to the galamsey site but the victim tried to stop him.
This degenerated into a serious argument between the suspect and the farmer.
The suspect, who at the time of the argument had a pistol on him, pulled it out and gave a warning shot, but accidentally, the bullet hit the armpit of the farmer.
The suspect, thinking he had killed the farmer, took to his heels.
The farmer, later managed to report the case to the Bibiani Police, who have commenced investigation into the incident to bring the culprit to book.
The victim is currently on admission at Bibiani Municipal Hospital, responding to treatment.
