Dr. Bernice Makafui Brempong receiving the award from the Veep
Dr. Bernice Makafui Brempong, the senior executive in charge of investments in healthcare and pharmaceuticals at the Office of the President, was honoured at the 10th Ghana Women of Excellence Awards.
The ceremony, held on March 7, 2025, at the Coconut Groove Hotel in celebration of International Women’s Day, saw the Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, present the award to Dr. Makafui in recognition of her significant contributions to Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Makafui, known for her passion for healthcare innovation and governance, has long advocated for policies that promote sustainable healthcare solutions.
She is also committed to empowering women and young professionals in science, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
Her impressive career has been recognised with several accolades, including the Africa Outstanding Professional Award (2022), Most Outstanding Female in Pharmaceuticals in Ghana Award (2022), and the 50 Most Influential Women in Ghana Award (2023).
Before joining the Office of the President, Dr. Makafui was the Chief Executive Officer of Makhealth Pharmaceuticals Limited and built her expertise working with prominent companies such as Ernest Chemists Limited and Entrance Pharmaceuticals Limited.
She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a Master of Science degree in Entrepreneurship from University College, London, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Ghana, Legon.
The Ghana Women of Excellence Awards, organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, celebrated under the theme, “Empowering the Ghanaian Woman for National Development,” continues to highlight the achievements of exceptional women across the country.
