Bawumia Supports Adum Fire Victims With GH¢200k

Dr. Bawumia during his visit to Adum

FORMER VICE President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has donated GH¢200,000 to help lessen the financial burden on the victims of the recent fire outbreak at Blue Light, a major trading area in Kumasi.

He also presented 1,000 bags of cement to the affected traders, whose goods and shops, numbering over 2,000, were totally reduced into ashes by the dangerous inferno, which started around 4am on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Dr. Bawumia, who was the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the December 7, 2024 polls, also used the occasion to appeal to President Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to complete the Kumasi Central Market project.

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, he said, left political office when the market project was 80 percent complete, adding that the NDC government should complete it to boost businesses and improve the lives of the people.

“I personally believe that when this market project is completed, it will go a long way to hugely benefit the traders in this great city, thereby contributing to develop our country’s economy,” Dr. Bawumia indicated.

Touching on the fire outbreak in Kumasi, he described the incident as very unfortunate, stressing that his visit to the market on Tuesday was mainly meant to console the fire victims, most of whom have lost their source of livelihoods.

Dr.  Bawumia, who personally assessed the level of destruction caused by the inferno, appealed passionately to well-to-do-individuals and organisations in the country to also come to the aid of the fire victims, who are in great need.

“I’m appealing to private businesses and individuals, who are well-to-do in society to come to the aid of our mothers, wives, husbands, brothers, and sisters, who have been adversely affected by the fire,” he appealed.

Dr. Bawumia also commended the brave personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who risked their lives and worked to properly deal with the dangerous blaze, thereby helping to reduce the level of destruction.

He said he had been reliably informed that some of the firefighters unfortunately sustained body injuries when they were dealing with the inferno, saying that “I wish them speedy recovery so they can return to work.”

Dr. Bawumia also entreated the affected traders to exercise patience in these extremely challenging times, and wait for investigations to be done to determine the exact cause of the fire outbreak, in order to avert its future occurrence.
