Reports from Bawku indicate that the police have withdrawn from Pusiga, Binduri and other locations where their presence provided security in the troubled areas.
They have all returned to the Divisional Headquarters in Bawku, leaving the joint operations they used to undertake with the military to the latter.
The new phase of hostilities has seen Kusasi youth targeting police officers in the town.
Some of the police officers have complained about how they are under the threat of being sold poisoned food.
One of them reportedly said some sellers have been warned not to sell to police personnel. This, in the face of being sold poisoned food, has made life unbearable for the police officers, some of them as young as 26 years, including young ladies.
The distressed cops are pleading to be moved out of Bawku since the residents do not want peace, which they are there to ensure.
“We are in a war zone,” one of the cops said in a WhatsApp message.
With the withdrawal of the police from the outskirts of Bawku, the atrocities will witness an intense state.
It is normal for the youth in this troubled part of the country to own sophisticated weapons which they fire at will.
One of the police officers, who went on social media to vent their plight, recorded the rattling of machine guns in automatic mode.
A social media influencer within the Kusasi youth has called on his people to kill police officers and soldiers, adding that this would hasten their access to the Mamprusis.
