Let Sammy Gyamfi’s Mistake Be A Caution To All Appointees – Mohammed Mashood

Alhaji Mohammed Mashood

The Director of Finance and Administration of Backbone of Good Governance, a Civil Society Organization operating in Ghana, has advised all appointees of this government, especially the youthful ones, to learn from past appointees and be mindful of the government’s Code of Conduct, at all times.

According the Director of Finance and Administration of Backbone of Good Governance, Alhaji Mohammed Mashood, the recent show of opulence by the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, in a video that has gone viral, would never be repeated if all other appointees learn from this experience and past appointees.

“It will not be wrong to learn from past appointees or even publications about some bad incidents that infuriated a large section of the public. In as much as some of their actions may be right in their private settings, same actions may cause public uproar if hit happens in public, hence the need to be careful how they (appointees) handle themselves and offices in public.

I have seen the video of Sammy Gyamfi giving some amount of Dollars to a certain Nana Agradaa, in the full glare of the public; I wouldn’t say what happened is lawful or unlawful. In as much as we would like to see the President, John Dramani Mahama ensure the compliance with the recently launched Code of Conduct, We would also plead with the President to forgive the young Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board and let it be a warning to all others.”

Alhaji Mashood believes that, if many appointees will accept their mistakes quickly as Sammy Gyamfi did and promise never to repeat their mistakes, the confidence that Ghanaians have in Ghana’s democracy and politicians will increase far above the current levels.

“We should not be fast to judge and condemn Sammy Gyamfi because of this single act. He has so much to offer to the governance of Ghana. Many young people aspiring to enter into politics have learned many positive lessons from Sammy Gyamfi, and so this viral video alone shouldn’t erase all his good deeds.

Sammy Gyamfi has handled himself well and honourably as a Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress and his name has become household name due to his good deeds.”

The Civil Society Organization, Backbone of Good Governance has promise to watch the conduct of government appointees strictly from now and when they fall foul of their mandates to Ghanaians, they will call the attention of the government and the public for the needed punitive action to be taken.
