Haitians Hold Flag Day In Ghana

Haitians in Ghana on Sunday May 18, 2025 defied the rains to hold its Flag Day at the Coco Palm Inn, West Airport in Accra.
The well attended event attracted traveling Hatians and those domiciled in Ghana.
And in his heartwarming address, Ghana’s Consulate General to Haiti  Ambassador Ray Quarcoo said “Dear friends and esteemed members of the Haitian community here in Ghana. Today, as we gather on this memorable occasion of Jounen Drapo Ayisyen, we celebrate not only a flag, but the heart, soul, and enduring spirit of Haiti.
” Our flag tells the story of our struggles and triumphs, of the sacrifices made by our ancestors, and it continues to inspire us to strive for freedom, equality, and justice.”
He added “As we stand together far from our beloved homeland, we remind ourselves that our identity is unbound by geography.
” Here in Ghana, a land known for its own rich culture and resilient spirit, we find common ground. Our unity today is a powerful testament to the strength of our Haitian heritage—a heritage built on courage, unity, and the ceaseless pursuit of a better tomorrow.
“Let us embrace the pride of our nation by looking back with gratitude to those who paved the way and by looking forward with determination to create a future that honours our legacy. In every smile, every gesture of kindness, and every communal effort, we carry a piece of Haiti with us, a beacon of hope and a reminder to always hold our head high.
May this celebration reinvigorate our commitment to our traditions and fortify our bonds as a community.
“Let us proudly raise our flag as a symbol of our resilience and our enduring hope. Together, here in Ghana, we carry the light of Haiti wherever we go.
Vive Ayiti – long Live Haiti”
A spokesperson for the Hatians in a post-event interview said”We did it! The food was amazing. Everyone really put in their best. The rain didn’t matter. I’m so glad and look forward to the next gathering.”
