Faustilove Appiah Kannin, a two-time parliamentary candidate for the Obuasi West Constituency on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been officially confirmed as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Obuasi West Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
In a confirmation election supervised by officials from the Electoral Commission, (EC) Ms. Appiah Kannin secured a resounding 92.86% approval—garnering 26 ‘Yes’ votes out of 28 ballots cast. The election, held at the old Obuasi West Municipal Assembly, was conducted peacefully and saw the active participation of 28 assembly members and government appointees.
Her nomination came from the President of the Republic, and her overwhelming endorsement was met with jubilation from party faithful, assembly members, and other stakeholders who thronged the assembly hall in support.
In her acceptance speech, Ms. Appiah Kannin expressed heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust placed in her. She also extended appreciation to the assembly members, traditional authorities, constituency and regional party executives, and all stakeholders who supported her candidacy.
“I express profound gratitude to my Assembly Members and government appointees for the enormous endorsement given to me today,” she said. “To the clergy, Nananom, gallant party supporters, the media, security services, my family, and the good people of Obuasi West—I appreciate your unwavering prayers, support, loyalty, and the confidence you have had in me throughout this journey.”
She pledged to work diligently to ensure the development of the Obuasi West Municipality and emphasised her commitment to inclusive leadership, regardless of political affiliation.
“We are going to build a Municipality that aligns with the resetting agenda of President John Dramani Mahama,” she added.
The confirmation ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Nana Kofi Konadu, the Kyidomhene of Manso Nkwanta and father of Ms. Appiah Kannin, alongside chiefs, clergy, Zongo leaders, and party executives.
