Former Western North Regional Minister under the Akufo-Addo administration, Joojo Rocky Obeng, has endorsed former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, to lead the party in the next elections.

The endorsement, which has sent ripples through Ghana’s political landscape, igniting debates and drawing attention from both supporters and critics, was made by Mr. Obeng on his social media pages yesterday as part of his birthday wish for Mr. Agyapong, who turned 65 on June 16, 2025.

Mr. Obeng praised Mr. Agyapong’s unapologetic stance on corruption and his track record in job creation.

“Happy birthday Hon Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. You have been a philanthropist for many years, you never miss the chance to do good to party people and Ghanaians,” parts of his birthday message to Mr. Agyapong read.

Mr. Obeng is widely respected for his grassroots initiatives that empower young entrepreneurs and members of the NPP across the country.

His endorsement carries significant weight among the party’s youth, the business community and professionals, a demographic that constitutes a crucial voting bloc.

In furtherance of his support for Mr. Agyapong, the former Western North Regional Minister also donated a property for the coordination of Mr. Agyapong’s campaign.

“…I therefore, sincerely wish to return some acts of generosity by first, donating a property of mine at East Legon for you to use to aid the campaign,” he stated. “Secondly, I will support you spiritually with prayers, financially with my widow’s mite and bring you real political commitment for you to succeed. Happy birthday once again. Be strong and remain courageous as always. #HappyBirthdayKen,” he added.

Mr. Agyapong, known for his fiery rhetoric and business acumen, has been an important figure in Ghanaian politics. His supporters view him as a fearless advocate for accountability, while detractors criticise his confrontational style.

Mr. Obeng’s endorsement appears to be a strategic move to bridge the gap between Mr. Agyapong’s traditional base and the younger, tech-savvy, business and professional community.

Mr. Obeng is the first former minister to endorse Kennedy Agyapong for the 2028 NPP flagbearership race.  He wields a huge political influence in the Western North Region, and adored by a lot of NPP supporters in the Western Region.

The former minister owns a chain of businesses which operates in the Western enclave of Ghana. He is the owner of Asaanu Valley Resort and Asaanu Airline, a private charter airline company with at least four aircraft.

The business man/politician is also the owner of Heavens Home Ltd, a real estate company and International Settlement Consortium (ISC) – a discount firm.
