The accident scene
Three students and a Taxi driver have died following an accident on the Winneba- Apam road on Monday.
According to the Winneba Municipal Fire Service, the incident occurred when a Toyota RAV4 vehicle attempted to overtake another vehicle on that stretch.
Report indicates that the vehicle, with registration number GN 5505-18 heading towards Apam, was unable to overtake a vehicle ahead of it just after the Winneba junction, and collided head-on with a Hyundai Jet Taxi.
According to an eyewitness, the driver and one other student died on the spot, while three of the students who were in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba also died Tuesday morning.
Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander, DO2 Frederick Adu-Roku, confirmed that the three students who died were students of St. Paul’s School and Uncle Rich Preparatory School in Winneba.
The Fire Service Commander said its preliminary investigations revealed the accident was caused by errors on the part of the drivers, and therefore appealed to drivers to be cautious on roads and adhere strictly to traffic regulations when driving.
