Man Drowns In Abandoned Galamsey Pit

A man believed to be in his late 30s has tragically drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Anyaaso in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region.

According to eyewitness accounts, the lifeless body, now in a decomposed state, was discovered floating in the pit, causing fear and panic among residents and commuters in the area.

An eyewitness, identified only as Kwame, confirmed the discovery to this reporter. “We started noticing a strong smell in the area, and when we got closer, we saw the body in the water,” he recounted with distress.

The unfortunate incident has once again brought attention to the grave dangers posed by abandoned galamsey pits scattered across many communities. These unregulated mining sites, often left uncovered, continue to claim lives and endanger residents, especially unsuspecting individuals who may stumble upon them.

Residents are calling on local authorities and environmental agencies to take urgent steps to secure such sites and implement lasting measures to prevent further tragedies.
