The Northern Regional Taskforce, a local taskforce, has arrested a renowned over-the-counter medicine seller, one Alhaji Sayuti, for allegedly possessing several boxes suspected to contain opioids.

The taskforce, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, arrested him with hundreds of boxes of opioids at his drug store after a search.

The Northern Regional Taskforce together with personnel of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, raided the warehouse of Alhaji Sayuti at Fuo, a suburb of Tamale and found over 350 boxes of the opioids.

According to the police, the suspect will be arraigned before the Tamale High Court on July 27, 2025.

Last week, the Northern Regional Taskforce in collaboration with the Regional Security Coordinating Directorate seized and destroyed quantities of opioids and other illicit drugs worth over GH¢2 million in Tamale.

Authorities, chiefs and opinion leaders in the Northern Region, have launched a campaign to tackle illicit drugs intake and distribution in the region.
