The Adentan Divisional Commander, Lumor, has been charged with assault in connection with the attack on GHOne Television journalist, Banabene.
This development was confirmed by the Accra Regional Police Command.
In a statement issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, it was indicated that the police officer captured in one of the videos assaulting the journalist has been held on criminal charges of assault.
“The Accra Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that all individuals responsible for acts of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the elections will be held accountable under the law,” part of the statement read.
Supt. Juliana Obeng further stated that, in relation to the violent incidents and assaults recorded during the Ablekuma North Parliamentary re-run held on Friday, 11th 2025, the command has reviewed several videos capturing incidents at polling stations to identify all individuals involved.
“The command has obtained statements from complainants and witnesses to aid in the ongoing investigations. The police have also gathered vital leads and wish to assure the public that arrests will be made soon.”
Additionally, the victims involved in these incidents have been issued police medical report forms in line with due process. “ We urging the public to cooperate with the police and share any credible information by contacting them at emergency numbers 18555 or 191.”
