Bright Aweh
Bright Aweh, the prime suspect in the murder of 38-year-old immigration officer, Stephen King Amoah, has been remanded into lawful custody by the Adabraka Magistrate Court for two weeks.
This is to allow the police to conduct further investigations into the murder of the immigration officer who went missing on July 4.
The case, which was initially considered as a kidnapping, transitioned into a murder investigation after the discovery of the late officer’s body in a bush not too far from the home of the prime suspect.
Stephen King Amoah was reported missing on July 4, 2025, after leaving his home at Ashongman Estate to meet Aweh, who, according to multiple reports, owed the deceased GH¢200,000.
However, his charred body was found five days later wrapped in woolen carpet in a gutter.
There were multiple stab wounds on his chest and neck, leading to Aweh’s subsequent arrest as the prime suspect in the unfolding murder investigation.
Aweh has been provisionally charged with one count of murder, and his plea has been reserved by the court which does not have jurisdiction to take a plea in murder cases.
Reports suggest that the alleged murderer had informed his neighbour on the day of the murder, to return home late after work that day, as he intended to fumigate the house due to a ‘funny smell.’
Ongoing Investigation
Speaking at a press conference on August 4, 2025, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor disclosed that the police has recovered a blood-stained fufu pestle wrapped in a polythene bag, hidden in the bushes approximately 100 meters from the crime scene.
She indicated that the fufu pestle has been sent for forensic analysis as part of an ongoing investigation.
The CID, supported by officers from the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Kwabenya District Police, visited suspect Bright Aweh’s residence as part of the ongoing investigation.
She further mentioned that the suspect’s car was impounded, saying, “Blood stains were seen and collected for analysis, and have tested positive for human blood.”
Evidence of attempted clean-up, freshly sprayed walls, and an empty can of spray paint (white) were uncovered.
A search at a secondary crime scene near the GBC Satellite area also uncovered a burnt wooden carpet stained with blood and partially burnt camouflage fabric. Subsequent investigations also revealed that a new woolen rug had been laid in the suspect’s house.
