A tragic accident on the Tatale–Zabzugu road last Friday night, October 24, resulted in the death of three passengers while over ten others sustained severe injuries.

The accident occurred when a Kia truck with registration number GW-5828-17, which was carrying traders returning from the Kukpalgu market, collided with an abandoned tricycle on the road.

A separate accident near the Kasoa tollbooth in the Central Region yesterday, also claimed multiple lives and left several others in critical condition, according to a JoyNews report.

Eyewitnesses, according to the report, said the crash occurred when a Sprinter minibus, with registration number GW 7455-18, travelling toward Kasoa, crashed into the rear of a Jeep 4×4 (GR 7673), which was reportedly reversing on the highway.

Tatale-Zabzugu Accident

Eyewitnesses attributed the Tatale-Zabzugu accident to poor visibility as a critical contributing factor to the violent collision which resulted in the fatality.

Reports suggest the driver’s visibility was severely compromised by the poor weather condition, which prevented him from noticing the stationary tricycle in time, hence driving straight into it.

According to reports, two (2) people died on the spot while a third victim died upon arrival at the Tatale District Hospital, bringing the total confirmed deaths to three (3).

Further reports suggest that over 10 other passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries were transported to the Tatale District Hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary, pending identification and interment.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the violent impact of the crash caused the minibus, which was fully loaded with passengers, to somersault several times before landing in a mangled state.

Reports say some of the passengers on board died instantly, while others were left trapped inside the wrecked car.

They further indicated that emergency responders and residents nearby quickly rushed to the scene to rescue survivors.

“Paramedics reportedly faced difficulties securing a referral for one of the critically injured victims after initial treatment at the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, as no major health facility was immediately available to receive the patient. The frantic transfer attempt lasted nearly an hour,” JoyNews reported.
