THE BOHYEN District Police in Kumasi has arrested 17 suspects in possession of quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, also known as ‘Wee’.
The arrest was made when a team of armed policemen conducted a major swoop in some known criminal hideouts and illegal drugs peddling joints in five communities.
The security operation, reportedly, took place in areas such as Bohyen, Amanfrom, Ohwim, Achiase and Amoamang on October 25, 2025 between 7:45am to 12 noon.
Those apprehended are Osei Tonto, 38; Prince Kwaku Ababio, 24; Akwasi Akusah, 43; Akwasi Acheampong, 41; Roland Akwasi Appiah, 23; and Kwabena Yeboah, 25.
Also in police custody include Kwame Agyapong, 25; William Konadu, 43; Sadick Mohammed, 18; Isaac Owusu, 23; Reginald Kwarteng, 22; and Yaw Mohammed, 21.
The remaining suspects nabbed by the police are Thomas Gyebi, 20; Osei Baffour, 18; Simon Osei, 19; George Agyemang, 32; and Emmanuel Conteh, 26.
According to the Bohyen District Police statement, sighted by the paper, the successful security operation is mainly intended to prevent criminals from operating in the area.
The police said, “Exhibit to wit, the quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a bottle of dried leaves, mixed with alcohol were retrieved from the scenes.”
The suspects, the police indicated, “are detained in custody for screening and profiling,” adding that “those found culpable will be arraigned before court.”
