Manhyia Has Not Stopped Daddy Lumba’s Funeral – Kofi Owusu

The Manhyia Palace has not halted plans for the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites scheduled for December 13, 2025, says Kofi Owusu, family head of the late musician.

In a video shared on Instagram, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu explained that he, together with some members of the late musician’s immediate family, visited the Manhyia Palace on December 8, 2025, to formally inform the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of the chosen funeral date.

Although they were unable to meet the Asantehene in person, Mr. Owusu said the chiefs present granted him approval to proceed with preparations for the ceremony.

“We purposely went to invite Otumfuo to the burial, but he couldn’t come down. However, the elders and chiefs told me to go ahead and organise the funeral,” he said.

His comments come amid counterclaims circulating on social media suggesting that the Asantehene had not approved the funeral date and that the Asantehene has scheduled another meeting for Thursday, December 11, to address the matter.

In a rebuttal, however, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu dismissed the allegations, urging the public to ignore them.

“I have heard people spreading some rumours, but I want all of you to debunk those claims because they are only throwing dust into your eyes. Whatever I say is final, so the burial is on December 13, 2025. I am the one the chiefs have given the mandate to organise the funeral,” he stated.
