The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for successfully organising a peaceful and violence-free presidential primary that elected former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer for the December 2028 general election.

In a statement issued in Accra yesterday, and signed by the NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, the party commended the conduct of the exercise, describing it as a positive contribution to the country’s democratic development.

The NDC also praised personnel of the Ghana Police Service for what it described as the professional and efficient manner in which security was provided throughout the process, ensuring the safety of delegates and the integrity of the election.

According to the statement, the ruling party welcomes the participation of the NPP and other political parties in the collective national effort to strengthen and deepen the nation’s democracy, stressing the importance of peaceful political competition.

The NDC further noted the conciliatory concession statements issued by candidates who did not prevail in the NPP’s internal contest, expressing the hope that such gestures of unity would be matched by concrete actions.

The party said peaceful internal elections and post-contest reconciliation remain critical to political stability ahead of the 2028 polls, as Ghana continues to consolidate its democratic gains.
