I’m NPP Flagbearer For 2028 Polls – Bawumia Informs Otumfuo

FLASHBACK: Dr. Bawumia paying homage to Otumfuo

FORMER VICE President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has officially informed the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, about his triumph in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race.

According to Dr. Bawumia, he emerged victorious in the crucial internal party election last Saturday because of the active support and wise counsel of Otumfuo, whom he considered as his own father.

The message was conveyed to the Asantehene by the Ashanti Regional Campaign Team of Dr. Bawumia, led by Dr. Kwame Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase Asokore.

The occasion was the first Akwasidae festival of the year 2026, which was held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday. Scores of dignitaries across the country and beyond were present.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie disclosed that Dr. Bawumia adores and respect Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, hence his decision to announce his electoral victory to Otumfuo just 24 hours after the NPP polls.

“His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo, yesterday the NPP went to the polls and your own son, Dr. Bawumia, was elected by the party delegates as the presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.

“Dr. Bawumia believes that your prayers, support and wise counsel was key in helping him to win the elections, so he has sent us here to inform you about the victory,” Dr. Ayew Afriyie informed Otumfuo.

He continued that Dr. Bawumia was aware that Otumfuo would soon embark on a leave of absence, so he (Bawumia) would come to the palace and inform Otumfuo when he resumes work.

The Effiduase Asokore lawmaker, on behalf of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP, respectfully, asked for the Asantehene’s blessings so that the party’s activities for the year would be highly successful.

Dr. Bawumia and Otumfuo relate well. The former Vice President has on countless public events referred to Otumfuo as his own father. It’s therefore not surprising that he has informed Otumfuo about his victory.
