‘Bawumia Is Africa’s Most Tolerant Leader’

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been bestowed with the honour of Order of the Sun.

The Africa Development Council (ADC), the source of the honour, has recognised him as the most tolerant and peaceful African leader during the Council’s recent programme in Accra.

The former Vice President’s tolerance after coming under intense and baseless name-calling by political opponents within his own party and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) continues to receive plaudits.

In the run-up to the NPP flagbearer race, Dr. Bawumia was not spared by the former Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who heaped unsubstantiated allegations on him. Even when these turned out to be false, Dr. Bawumia continued to prefer silence.

Some polls showed that his tolerance earned him more support from the delegates of the NPP and other Ghanaians.

Another credit to Dr. Bawumia’s reputation is how after the last presidential elections in 2024, he conceded defeat even before the Electoral Commission declared the results.

While some party members queried him for doing so, his reason was because the peace of the country was paramount, hence his action. This too won many hearts across the political divide of the country.

The ADC is a non-profit organisation founded to promote sustainable industrial development in Africa. It aims at restoring Africa to her former glory of self-sufficient continent, in terms of socioeconomic and scientific civilisation on the globe. The ADC works with a variety of stakeholders, including African governments, businesses, civil society organisations and international partners.

Dr. Bawumia won the hearts of most delegates to become the flagbearer of the NPP during a keenly contested primary last Saturday.
