Fire Kills 70-Year-Old Man

A scene at the house after the fire outbreak

A man, believed to be in his early 70s and identified as Kwasi Nkansah, has met his untimely death after a two-bedroom house in which he was residing was gutted by fire at Sefwi Adjoafua in the Western North Region.

The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

According to information gathered, the old man was asleep when the inferno started during a downpour, which probably caused power fluctuation.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, and explained that the fire destroyed a two-bedroom and kitchen.

According to the post, the firefighters responded swiftly to a distress call and rushed to the scene, but had to battle the heavy rainfall and poor road conditions.

The fire personnel managed to contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The GNFS called on the public to prioritise fire safety measures and fire prevention habits, as well as promptly report emergencies to authorities concerned.

“We call on the public to practice fire safety and report emergencies immediately,” the Service indicated.
