Kurt Okraku (L) and IGP Tetteh Yohuno
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has reaffirmed the Association’s partnership with the Ghana Police Service following a courtesy call on Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno at the Police Headquarters on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The meeting underscored growing collaboration between football authorities and national security, with a major highlight being the GFA’s commitment to support the construction of a modern community football pitch at the Police Depot School in Tesano.
The facility, under the FA’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, is expected to boost grassroots development and expand opportunities for young talents.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku thanked the IGP and his leadership for their warm reception, noting that sustained engagement with law enforcement remains vital to the growth and security of the game.
He commended the Police Service for its investment in football through Police Ladies and Police National FC, who compete in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League and the Access Bank Division One League respectively.
Police Ladies were praised for their semi-final finish at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifiers.
The GFA President stressed the importance of specialised sports policing to address crowd control and matchday security, and called for intensified efforts to combat match manipulation and illegal betting.
In response, IGP Yohunu assured the FA of continued support, citing enhanced security technology and specialised units to curb hooliganism and ensure safety at match venues nationwide.
The visit signals a renewed commitment to youth development, integrity and a secure football environment across Ghana.
