The Bibiani Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Frank Asiedu Nimako, has sentenced two men to seven years’ imprisonment each with hard labour for raping a female victim.
The convicts are Theophilus Ankrah, 18, a tricycle rider, and Kwaku Nkrumah, 20, also known as Prince, a Plaster of Paris (POP) specialist.
Presenting the facts before the court, Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Agyemang stated that the complainant, Dorothy Biri, 40, a trader and mother of the victim, 15 years and a JHS One student, who resides at Bibiani Hwenampori, reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at the Bibiani Command.
According to the prosecution, on February 8, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., the victim left home for an unknown destination and returned at about 10:00 p.m. The complainant reprimanded her and asked her to return to where she had come from.
The victim subsequently left the house and met the two accused persons at the Bibiani Hwenampori Voda House Junction. The first accused, who was on a tricycle (popularly known as “Pragya”), stopped and asked her why she was crying. She narrated her ordeal to them.
The prosecution said the suspects took advantage of the victim’s vulnerable situation and lured her to their residence, where she was kept from Sunday evening until Wednesday evening.
The court heard that the following morning, at about 8:00 a.m., the first accused had sexual intercourse with the victim. Later, at about 11:00 a.m., the second accused also had sexual intercourse with her. The accused persons engaged in repeated sexual acts with the victim until the fourth day, when they accompanied her back home.
The matter was reported to DOVVSU, headed by ASP Evelyn Yitamkey of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Division. The victim narrated what had transpired in the accused persons’ room, and a police medical report confirmed her account.
Following investigations, the police arrested the two accused persons and arraigned them before the Bibiani Circuit Court, which convicted and sentenced them accordingly.
Speaking after the proceedings, ASP Evelyn Yitamkey advised parents and guardians to adopt friendly and supportive approaches toward their daughters rather than using abusive language that could push them into vulnerable situations.
She also cautioned the youth, especially young men, to be mindful of their conduct and their relationships with females, stressing that the law will deal firmly with anyone found guilty of rape and related offences.
