Phone Robber Busted

 

A WILD chase, on foot, has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspected phone robber at Abuakwa near Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, the police has reported.

Suspect Gideon Awuah, reportedly, robbed one Agnes Arthur of her Itel cell phone, valued at GH¢150, a National Identification Card, and a cash of GH¢50, at knife point.

In the process of the robbery, which happened at 4:30 a.m. on February 21, 2026, near the Abraham Lincoln International School, the victim shouted to draw the attention of other people, who rushed to the scene.

Sensing danger, Awuah was said to have to taken to his heels in a desperate attempt to avert being arrested, but he was overpowered and arrested by the people who pursued him.

“On 21/02/2026, at about 0500 hours, Agnes Arthur, assisted by Inspr. Richard Osei Boateng, arrested and brought to the Abuakwa Station suspect Awuah Gideon, aged approximately 25 years.

“The complainant reported that on the same day at about 0430 hours, while on her way to Adum, and upon reaching the vicinity of Abraham Lincoln International School, the suspect attacked her with a knife and robbed her of an Itel cell phone valued at GH¢150, National Identification Card, and cash amounting to GH¢50.

“During the robbery, the complainant raised an alarm, and the suspect was pursued and apprehended by witnesses,” Abuakwa Divisional Police CID Sitrep, confirming the story, disclosed.

A search, according to the police, was conducted on Awuah and it led to the retrieval of the complainant’s Itel mobile phone and an additional Samsung Android phone, suspected to be a stolen device.

The police report, which the DAILY GUIDE has sighted, indicated that the suspect was taken into custody to assist in investigations.
