Five Arrested Over Liberian Man Lynching

The late Austin Tengbeh

Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the gruesome lynching of 24-year-old Liberian national Austin Tengbeh, making a total of five suspects in police custody.

Suspect Vincent Adzikah, Francis Amuzu, and William Anderson were arrested at the scene same day by the Sakumono District Police. Suspect Enoch Mensah, however, evaded arrest and went into hiding following the incident, but later resurfaced and was arrested and remanded on March 4, 2026. Suspect Nana Agyenim Boateng, whose alleged instruction is believed to have set the chain of events in motion, was subsequently arrested and remanded into custody.

They are scheduled to reappear before the Baatsona District Court on March 16, 2026. Investigation is ongoing and further developments will be communicated in due course.

Addressing the press, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, condemned the act of mob justice that claimed the life of Austin Tengbeh.

She emphasised that lynching is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law, thereby advising the public that taking the law into one’s own hands will not be tolerated.

“Citizens are urged to report suspected criminal activity to the Police rather than resorting to self-help or inciting mob action,” she stated.

The lynching of Austin Tengbeh, an Information Technology specialist, at Sakumono-Lashibi, Accra on February 27, 2026, has triggered public outcry across the country.

According to reports, Mr. Tengbeh had gone to visit a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation occurred, which subsequently led to the unfortunate events now under investigation.

The case was formally referred to the Homicide Unit on March 2, 2026, together with a machete exhibit and three remand suspects, for continuation of the investigation.

On March 5, 2026, a post-mortem examination was conducted following formal identification of the body by the deceased’s brother-in-law. A full autopsy report will be issued by the pathologist after a toxicology report is submitted.
