Diana Hamilton
RENOWNED ENTERTAINMENT pundit, MC Yaa Yeboah, has registered her displeasure over some individuals in the media space discrediting the efforts of Gospel Minister Diana Hamilton, after being nominated for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year.
There has been a lot of debate about Diana Hamilton’s nomination in the TGMA Artiste of the Year category. Some critics, such as Sally Mann, believe the gospel artiste is not deserving of the nomination, arguing that her colleague, Piesie Esther, deserves the honour.
On the other hand, some entertainment pundits like Arnold Asamoah Baidoo believes Diana Hamilton is more than deserving of the nomination, citing her consistent output, global reach, and the success of her “Awake Experience” worship concert series. Mr. Baidoo has even argued that Diana Hamilton’s newest song, ‘Aha Ye’, outshines other gospel songs, including Piesie Esther’s ‘Nyame Ye’.
During last Saturday’s United Showbiz programme on UTV, MC Yaa Yeboah stated that ahead of the official nomination of this year’s awards, Diana Hamilton was among her top five artistes for the ultimate Artiste of the Year nomination.
“Nobody can sit anywhere and say that Diana does not deserve a nomination for the Artiste of the Year category, she has even won one before. She is a gospel artiste who has been consistent with her growth from inception of her career till now. You can disagree that you don’t want Diana to be there, but you cannot say she does not deserve to be in the category, it’s two different things,” she stated.
MC Yaa Yeboah further indicated that she does not appreciate the commentaries made in the media space suggesting that Diana Hamilton does not deserve a nomination in the category.
It’s worth noting that Diana Hamilton is the only gospel artiste nominated in the Artiste of the Year category, competing with secular music heavyweights like Wendy Shay, Black Sherif, Medikal, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie.
