Okyeame Kwame
Rapper, Okyeame Kwame, has declared that winning the Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is not difficult.
According to him it is that simple. Speaking on Hitz FM on Monday, the musician, popularly known as the ‘Rap Doctor’, said securing the top honour depends on meeting clear targets within a given year.
“It’s not difficult to win Artist of the Year. If I’m able to do all the things that I say I’m doing in a year and I get three big hits, I am Artist of the Year. It is that simple,” he said.
Okyeame Kwame pointed to his academic background as a key advantage, noting that he holds an M.Phil in Public Relations and a Master’s degree in Marketing Strategy, and is also a co-opted member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the United Kingdom.
According to him, this expertise allows him to effectively position himself within the industry.
“I know marketing and I know PR. I can map out my stakeholders to the point that people see what I’m doing. And then I do what I’m supposed to do. I’ll be Artist of the Year. Easily,” he stated.
However, the rapper acknowledged that one factor remains beyond his control — audience reception.
“The only thing that I don’t have control over is the three or four big hits. I’ll leave that to the audience. If the audience likes three of my songs, I’ll be Artist of the Year,” he added.
Okyeame Kwame previously won the top prize at the Ghana Music Awards in 2009 and has maintained a consistent presence in the country’s music industry for nearly three decades.
