The Ghana Police Service has gunned down a suspected armed robber during an intelligence-led operation that foiled a planned attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza Highway.
The incident occurred on April 9, 2026, near Mimenaso No. 2 in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region, following credible intelligence that a six-member gang was preparing to ambush and rob commuters along the stretch.
Police sources disclosed that the gang was led by Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as “Shaini.”
Acting swiftly on the information, an operational team moved into a nearby bush where the suspects were said to be hiding in readiness for the attack.
However, upon spotting the approaching team, the suspects reportedly mistook them for potential victims and opened fire.
The police returned fire, fatally wounding one of the suspects, while the remaining members of the gang, including the alleged leader, fled into the bush.
A search conducted at the scene led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three assorted keypad mobile phones. Two additional live cartridges were also found in the pocket of the deceased suspect, along with a talisman tied around his waist.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects as efforts intensify to bring them to justice.
