Kin Dee
Award-winning Ghanaian producer, Kin Dee, has disclosed been harassed by police solely because of his dreadlocks, despite not smoking or drinking.
He described as unfair the profiling where officers assume his hair equals criminal activity, prompting him to call for a change in mindset regarding lifestyle choices and public harassment.
Speaking in an interview on Atuu show on UTV hosted by Nana Romeo, Kin Dee indicated that, “with me, I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, and my friends can attest to that. But the police constantly harass me anytime they meet me on the road because of my locks. They stop me and vigorously carry a search on me with the intent of discovering either wee or hard drugs on me (sic).”
He further called for a mental shift on how people with locks or rasta hairstyle are perceived as criminals, saying, “I remember travelling to Kumasi, a police stopped cars on the road, could you imagine I was the only person they came to conduct a search on whether I am with a hard drug, and unfortunately for them, they saw nothing (sic).”
