DVLA Recalls Defective 2026 Number Plates

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the recall and replacement of a batch of 2026 vehicle number plates after routine checks revealed quality defects that caused some plates to fade prematurely.

In a statement, the Authority disclosed that the affected plates failed to meet its required durability standards, particularly with regard to the visibility of printed characters.

“Routine quality checks revealed that some plates do not meet the Authority’s durability standards, causing the printed characters to fade. Once detected, the affected batch was immediately withdrawn from circulation, although some plates had already been issued,” the DVLA stated.

The Authority has therefore directed all vehicle owners who may have received the defective plates to visit any DVLA office nationwide for a free replacement.

“All affected vehicle owners are invited to visit any DVLA office nationwide for a free replacement,” the statement added.

The DVLA apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public of its commitment to maintaining high standards in the production and issuance of vehicle registration materials.

It further indicated that measures had been put in place to prevent a recurrence of the issue, stressing its dedication to delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality number plates to the motoring public.
