Ghana’s leading YouTube content creator, Kwadwo Sheldon, has descended heavily on CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, for threatening Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye over commentary on illegal mining.

Delivering the State of the Church Address at the 48th General Conference on Wednesday, April 22, Apostle Nyamekye raised alarm over the continued destruction of Ghana’s water bodies through illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

He said the pollution of rivers and streams is directly disrupting key church practices, including water baptism in affected mining communities.

“The extensive pollution of water bodies due to illegal mining has hampered traditional water baptism in some mining communities, necessitating a shift to synthetic rubber pools in several districts to carry out the ordinance,” he stated.

Following his commentary, Dr. Mary Awusi issued a stern warning to the Chairman, stating that “If he descends to that level again, we will deal with him as a politician.”

“He’s a man of God, so we’ll forgive him. But next time, he shouldn’t stoop so low to that level. I am telling him. If he descends to that level to behave like a politician, we will deal with him as a politician. I’ve given him reverence because he’s a man of God and the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost,” she stressed.

On X, Kwadwo Sheldon has questioned Dr. Awusi’s audacity to question the respected man of God.

“The audacity to warn the chairman of the most populous church in the country for sharing an opinion about galamsey… Apostle Eric Nyamekye be your mate? What a stvpid thing to do! (sic),” the post read.

Meanwhile, in 2022 under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Apostle Eric Nyamekye took the media with him to capture the destruction caused by galamsey. He condemned galamsey and called for action; no NPP member insulted him. Today, he’s being insulted by National Democratic Congress (NDC) government appointees for advocating for an end to galamsey.
