Ghana has hosted the 2nd edition of ‘Ghana Cake Festival’ in partnership with National Youth Authority (NYA) in Accra under the theme: “Flavours of Heritage: Inspiring the Youth in Entrepreneurship through Baking.”
Held at the Underbridge in East Legon on May 3, the event had an overflow of participants who crowded the venue to admire the genius cake makers who crafted different shapes in a storytelling sequence.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration at the National Youth Authority, Mr. Jacob Adongo Atule, stated that the festival is a strategic platform for job creation and youth empowerment, highlighting the role of the National Apprenticeship Programme in equipping young people with practical skills, mentorship, and start-up support to build sustainable enterprises.
Co-founder of the Ghana Cake Festival and CEO of Sugarcity Ghana, Angela Nana Adwoa Kwao, said the 2026 edition partnered with the National Youth Authority, to align with the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme initiative to train young people in various trade areas, particularly in the baking and food processing sector, while turning talents into viable businesses.
She added that the festival is a celebration of creativity, resilience, and growth, which connects Ghana to the global cake industry.
Ms. Kwao also expressed appreciation to partners, sponsors, and volunteers of the event.
The Head of Dotted i Events and Catering, Madam Priscilla Ansah, in an interview, disclosed that the inspiration behind her agriculture cakes creation and the fashion equipment cake is a visual representation of the various employment opportunities which has easy entry points in the country.
She explained that cake making is not just crafting but also a way to tell stories, adding that she has been in the industry for nine years and six months.
She said, “Cake can tell a story, which I try to sell through my creativity. I’m used to doing cake for situations or aspects of people that depict something in their life.”
The CEO of Nandi School of Hospitality, Monica Nandara, explained that the idea behind her horse cake is a depiction of the energy and freedom of the Ghanaian youth.
She said, “Ghanaian youth are powerful forces wavering or galloping to pursue success in the future,” adding that through skills training, the youth will be able to recognise their potentials, break barriers of poverty, unemployment, and ride towards success.
