Late gospel icon, Yaw Sarpong, has been laid to rest in Kumasi following a funeral service attended by family, friends, colleagues and hundreds of mourners on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The burial service, held at Asuofua Town Park, attracted personalities from the business and entertainment industries, who joined the bereaved family to pay their final respects to the celebrated musician.
Yaw Sarpong, founder and leader of the Asomafo Band, was widely known for his immense contribution to the growth of gospel music in the contry over several decades.
Among the personalities who attended the funeral were businessman Osei Kwame Despite, Bishop J.Y. Adu, gospel musician, Broda Sammy, actress and media personality, Nana Ama McBrown, as well as musicians Great Ampong, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Elder Mireku, Jack Alolome and gospel group Daughters of Glorious Jesus.
Yaw Sarpong was one of Ghana’s most respected gospel ministers, who touched lives with his songs.
His ministry through music earned him admiration across generations and denominations, while his work with the Asomafo Band played a major role in shaping Ghana’s gospel music industry.
