Grace Agyemang Asamoah presenting an item to one of the beneficiaries
The Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has distributed assorted items and financial assistance to Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district to improve their living conditions and promote economic empowerment.
The items presented included block-making machines, deep freezers, wheelchairs, popcorn machines and other working tools, while some beneficiaries also received cheques to support the payment of medical bills and school fees.
Presenting the items, Mrs. Asamoah urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items donated to better their lives and become self-reliant.
She also appealed to families and relatives of persons living with disabilities to show them love, care and support instead of neglecting them.
According to the DCE, disability does not mean inability, stressing that with the needed support and encouragement, PWDs can contribute meaningfully towards national development.
She reiterated the government’s commitment to continuously support and empower persons living with disabilities across the country.
The District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Hannah Yeboah, advised the public against discriminating against or marginalising persons living with disabilities.
She urged the public to embrace them as important members of the society and also encouraged PWDs to remain united and advocate for their welfare with one voice.
The Local Chairman of the Federation of Persons Living with Disabilities, Yaw Nsafoah, on his part, encouraged members to identify and bring on board other persons living with disabilities within their communities to strengthen the association.
He further appealed to the assembly to ensure the timely release of funds meant for persons living with disabilities in the district.
