THREE PEOPLE reportedly died on the spot and scores of others suffered life-threatening injuries when a Mitsubishi 4×4 car crashed head-on with an oncoming Sprinter bus.
The Monday morning accident happened at Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra highway at 7:30 a.m., and caused massive vehicular traffic on the busy highway.
According to eyewitnesses’ reports, the Mitsubishi 4×4 car suddenly veered from its lane when it got to the Konongo Three Lane within the Asante Akyem Central Municipality.
Just after the Mitsubishi vehicle had veered from its lane, it crashed head-on with the Sprinter bus, which was coming from the opposite direction, resulting in deaths and injuries.
According to the people who witnessed the gory spectacle, several Good Samaritans rushed to the accident scene to offer a helping hand to the survivors of the crash.
Lanbon Joseph, the Konongo Municipal National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director, in a report, which has been sighted by the paper, confirmed the crash and said three people died and 15 others got injured.
He said 18 people in total suffered injuries and out of that number, three of them gave up the ghost, adding that the injured people were receiving treatment at the hospital.
Mr. Lanbon said officials of NADMO in the area rushed to the crash scene and “Upon arrival 18 victims were found to have sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the incident. Three persons out of the 18 were found dead and the rest of the injured were promptly transported to the nearest medical facility.”
Meanwhile, police are investigating the accident.
