Policeman Caged Over GH¢38k MoMo Vendor Robbery

A POLICEMAN, stationed at the Asuoyeboah Police Station in Kumasi, has been remanded into police custody for his alleged involvement in a robbery attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Kumasi.

The suspect, Inspector Bright Appiah Dankwah, reportedly appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Monday, May 11, 2026 where he was remanded to reappear on May 29, 2026.

The Ashanti Regional Anti-Robbery Unit, during an intelligence operation, nabbed Inspector Dankwah for his involvement in a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor in Kumasi and arraigned him.

A press statement by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, authored by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed the report, and added that Inspector Dankwah has since been interdicted.

“The suspect was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Anti-Robbery Unit following intelligence-led operations. A search conducted at his residences led to the retrieval of a Bruni Mod. 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and cash amounting to GH¢ 9,835.00.”

 

Victim Speaks

Meanwhile, the victim of the robbery has narrated the terrifying ordeal she went through after the police inspector allegedly robbed her at gunpoint and threatened to shoot her and her daughter.

The victim, Victoria Arko, speaking to DAILY GUIDE, said the suspect allegedly bolted with over GH¢38,000 during the incident.

According to her, the armed officer cocked his gun and threatened to kill both her and her daughter after demanding the money.

“After asking for the money, he cocked the gun and said he was going to shoot me and my daughter,” she recounted.

“At once I urinated on my daughter out of fear because he cocked the gun on me,” she added.

Victoria Arko indicated that she is still traumatised and living in fear following the incident.

The police said investigations into the case are still ongoing.
