4 Jailed 32 Years For Kidnapping

The Northern Regional Police Command has secured the conviction and sentencing of four kidnappers who abducted their victim at Wapuli in the Northern Region and collected a ransom of GH¢100,000 before releasing him.

The convicts – Haruna Seidu, Osman Sambo, Amadu Aminu and Hoyeefe Amadu, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Unit while sharing the ransom money at Bokpaba on the Yendi-Bimbilla road.

At a press briefing in Tamale, the Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, said the convicts were arraigned before Tamale High Court Two on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit kidnapping, kidnapping, causing harm and threat of death.

According to him, after a full trial, the court found all four guilty on all counts and sentenced each of them to eight years imprisonment with hard labour on each count, to run concurrently.

He indicated that the court further ordered that four motorbikes and four mobile phones retrieved during investigations be auctioned, with the proceeds paid into the Consolidated Fund and also GH¢70,010, being part of the recovered ransom money, was ordered to be released to the complainant’s brother, Buubu Osman.

The Northern Regional Police Commander assured that the command remains resolute in its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes within the region, adding that intelligence-led operations have been intensified across identified hotspots, and collaboration among all security agencies continues to be strengthened to ensure the safety and security of residents.
