Obed Kwadwo Safo
The family of the late Ghanaian innovator and religious leader, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has revealed that the July 30 to August 1, 2026 dates set for the final burial rites remain unchanged despite Adwoa Safo’s current health status.
According to Obed Kwadwo Safo, youngest son of the late Apostle Safo Kantanka, while the current health condition of the former lawmaker Adwoa Safo worsens, the final burial rites date remains unchanged as plans are far advanced to ensure that their father receives a befitting burial.
He announced that the multi-day farewell will be held in three regions.
“On July 30, 2026, a private burial service will take place at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, on July 31, 2026, a national farewell and main funeral service will be held at the Independence Square in Accra, and on August 1, 2026, a thanksgiving service will be held at Jackson Park in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
“The date for the burial of my father still remains July 30, we are not changing anything. While my senior sister goes through health checks to ensure she regains her strength, the date remains the same. And we are calling on all well-wishers and lovers of my father to come in their numbers as we bid the final farewell for our legend,” he stated.
He further assured that there will be heavy police presence at the funeral grounds to ensure that everyone present for the funeral is safe.
Adwoa Safo’s Health
Obed Kwadwo Safo revealed that the former legislator has undergone several surgical procedures since the shooting incident, adding that “looking at the severity of my sister’s condition, we have plans of flying her to the Americas, Germany or Dubai for intensive health checkup.”
Obed Kwadwo Safo also expressed deep concern over the growing tensions within the Kantanka family, saying recent events have tarnished the good name their father worked hard to build over the years.
“Our father left us a good name, but today, when people see us, they perceive us as carrying weapons. Our father would be very gutted and disappointed wherever he is,” he said.
Shooting Incident
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, a shooting incident occurred at a residence in Kwabenya, where the former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Adwoa Safo was shot at multiple times during an event at the home of her younger brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
The gathering was tied to a highly contested installation process within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of the church’s founder, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, on September 11, 2025, at age 77.
After his passing, internal disagreements emerged over leadership succession, with some members supporting the installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as successor.
According to the Ghana Police Service, Adwoa Safo arrived at the premises during the event and requested entry, but was denied access. Tensions escalated, leading to the alleged discharge of firearms by private security personnel stationed at the residence. Police say she sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear.
Her vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with registration number GN 3482-24, was found with multiple gunshot damages. She reported the incident to Kwabenya Police and was issued a Police Medical Report Form to proceed to the hospital for medical checkup.
Meanwhile, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, and eight other individuals who were arrested over the incident were hauled before Adentan court and charged with multiple criminal charges, including use of offensive weapon, possession of offensive weapon, prohibition of vigilante groups and activities, discharging of firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.
The court granted them bail of GH¢500,000 each, with the case being adjourned to September 30, 2026.
